PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The mission of this new Institute is to understand the fundamentals of biology and disease and to extend our discoveries into real-life applications that improve human health. The hub of the Institute is in the Pappajohn Biomedical Discovery Building. Research in the Institute will span a range of subjects determined by scientists who have a passion for discovery and supported by donors who share that passion.

This facility, next to the Carver Biomedical Research Building on the UI Health Sciences Campus, houses laboratories and office space dedicated to cutting-edge, cross-disciplinary research in the biomedical and life sciences, involving scientists from across the entire campus.

The focus of this 9-story 218,000-square-foot structure is interdisciplinary research in the broad areas of neuroscience, aging, and regenerative medicine. The facility includes wet research laboratories, office space, vivarium, and central core facilities making the building a destination point for research-related imaging created through the Iowa Institute of Biomedical Imaging.

• Standardized telecommunications infrastructure design compliant to EIA/TIA specification.
• Specified horizontal cabling, Category 5E.
• Designed for universal network connectivity (one network connection for classrooms).
• Designed over 1,200 telecommunications drops.
• Integrated backbone design featuring 108-strand fiber optic and 1,200-pair copper riser.
• Designed network-based integrated electronic access control and video surveillance system with connectivity to campus public safety control center.
• Integrated electronic video surveillance throughout the building and building exterior.
