IPDG Wins ACEC Engineering Excellence Award of Merit

OMAHA, NE – IP Design Group is proud to announce that our project submission, the Lewis Central High School Performing Arts Center, earned an award of merit from ACEC Nebraska’s Engineering Excellence Awards’ judging panel in the Building & Technology Systems category.

The judging panel for the ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards grades submissions based on five unique criteria: design complexity, unique and innovative engineering applications, sustainable design considerations, future value to the engineering profession, and the successful fulfillment of client needs. Judges were impressed by the intuitive application of acoustical and low-voltage technology integrated throughout the auditorium.

The Lewis Central High School Performing Arts Center is a state-of-the-art, multipurpose performance venue utilized by Lewis Central High School and the surrounding community in Council Bluffs, Iowa, to host speaking engagements, music performances, theatrical programs, and more. The client’s objective for the space was to provide adequate opportunities for students to fulfill educational initiatives and enhance students’ access to performing arts opportunities and coursework.

IP Design Group’s role on the project was to provide audiovisual, telecommunications, and acoustical design and consultation for the performance stage, orchestra pit, 1,100-seat auditorium, balcony, and mezzanine as well as the black box theater, changing rooms, audition and practice spaces, and catwalk areas. Important design aspects also included being conscientious of the auditorium’s unique interior aesthetic while assuring the technology and acoustical solutions properly served the space’s wide range of uses.

Jessica Hiatt CTS-D, an associate principal with IP Design Group, provided low-voltage technology and acoustical design considerations for the project. Sam Underwood provided significant technical contributions to the Lewis Central project as well.

The award will officially be presented to the firm at ACEC Nebraska’s Annual Awards Gala, hosted in Waterloo, Nebraska, on April 24.
